The Past

Formed as Belmont fc During in 1884 in the 1980s, We were beset by financial problems and, in 1987, went into administration. However, this was a prelude to the most successful period in Tranmere's history; under manager John King, the team reached the play-offs for promotion to the Premier League in three successive seasons. Under King's successor, John Aldridge, Tranmere experienced a number of cup runs, most notably reaching the 2000 Football League Cup Final. Other cup runs include reaching FA Cup quarter-finals in 2000, 2001 and 2004

Veteran Paul Rideout was Rovers' hero after scoring a second-half hat-trick to cancel out the Saints' three first-half goals.
Glenn Hoddle's men dominated the first 45 minutes only to be torn apart by the Division One strugglers in the second half.
Moroccan international Hassan Kachloul, who had not scored since the opening day of the season, capped an outstanding first half performance by scoring the first and laying on the second for Jo Tessem.

Key Game 2

Tranmere v Everton

Tranmere Rovers made the journey across the River Mersey to heap FA Cup humiliation on neighbours Everton at Goodison Park.
We made a nonsense of their lowly position in the First Division to leave Everton's fans in fury and pile the pressure on boss Walter Smith.
Tranmere struck Everton with two first half goals from Steve Yates and highly-rated youngster Jason Koumas.
And it was no more than the Wirral outfit deserved when Yates added his second and Tranmere's third after the break.
Koumas put more pounds on his £2m price tag with a brilliant goal and a lively performance - but Tranmere's real weapon of destruction was the pace of Andy Parkinson.

Key Game 7

Tranmere V Newport

Tranmere Rovers earned a spot in League One thanks to Connor Jennings' last-gasp extra-time winner against 10-man Newport County.
Jennings headed home Jake Caprice's perfect cross to break the resistance of a Newport side who battled with great spirit despite a numerical disadvantage.
An even contest swung decisively in Tranmere's favour when County captain Mark O'Brien was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 89th minute.
It compounded Newport's misery as Michael Flynn's side felt they were denied a clear penalty just moments earlier when Emmanuel Monthe appeared to foul Newport forward Jamille Matt.
Rovers' win was their second play-off final success in as many years.
